Dr. Stefanie Kesting Takes Helm at Thyssengas GmbH, Steering Germany’s Gas Network Into the Energy Transition
Dr. Stefanie Kesting became the Chief Executive Officer of Thyssengas GmbH on January 1 2026. This is a change for Thyssengas GmbH, which is a major energy company in Germany. Thyssengas GmbH is getting ready for a change to use more renewable and green gases. Dr. Stefanie Kesting is now, in charge of Thyssengas GmbH, which is based in Dortmund. The company is moving towards a future that will be dominated by green gases and Dr. Stefanie Kesting will lead this change as the Chief Executive Officer of Thyssengas GmbH.
Dr. Kesting is taking over from Dr. Thomas Gößmann, who will stop working at Thyssengas at the end of February 2026. Dr. Thomas Gößmann has been in charge of Thyssengas for nine years and he did a great job of helping the company grow and become more modern.
The company announced that Dr. Kesting would be the leader back in autumn 2025. This change in leadership shows that Thyssengas is serious about getting ideas and expertise to help the company deal with the changes that are happening in the energy sector, which is a big challenge for Thyssengas and other energy companies, like Thyssengas.
When Dr. Kesting started her job she had a lot of experience in the global energy sector. Dr. Kesting worked with energy companies like E.ON, Uniper and DNV. Dr. Kesting was also a managing director at Neuman & Esser a company that makes plants. At Neuman & Esser Dr. Kesting was in charge of the Energy Project Solutions part of the business. Dr. Kesting has always been interested in gases, hydrogen technologies and CO₂ value chains. These areas are now very important, to Thyssengas. Dr. Kesting and Thyssengas are going to work on gases, hydrogen technologies and CO₂ value chains.
Dr. Kesting made some comments when she spoke to the public for the first time as CEO. She said that this is an important time for Thyssengas and for the energy situation in Germany.
Dr. Kesting said that the next few years will be crucial for Thyssengas. She said that we will find out if Thyssengas can really change and make sure that people have the energy they need in a way.
Thyssengas has to do two things at the time. Thyssengas has to make sure that the gas infrastructure is safe and secure. At the time Thyssengas has to work on solutions that are good for the climate and do not hurt the environment. Dr. Kesting talked about the responsibility that Thyssengas has to make sure that energy supply is safe and good, for the climate.
Thyssengas is really important for Germanys energy plans. They have a gas network that is 4,400 kilometers long. This network gives gas to companies that distribute gas to factories and to power plants in North Rhine-Westphalia and some parts of Lower Saxony. Thyssengas wants to make changes to this network so it can carry more hydrogen and green gas. This is a part of reducing the bad things we put into the air and helping the European Union meet its goals for the climate. Thyssengas is working on this because it is crucial for the energy transition, in Germany.
One of the projects that Dr. Kesting is in charge of is creating a network that uses hydrogen as a source of energy. This project is trying to connect hydrogen to the existing system that supplies gas to people. The goal is to make it easier for people to use hydrogen as a source of energy for things like factories, cars and power plants. Dr. Kesting says that the job is not about building this hydrogen network but also, about thinking about how it will affect all areas of life and different parts of the region. The hydrogen core network is a part of this plan and Dr. Kesting wants to make sure that the hydrogen core network is developed in a way that works well for everyone.
The management board of Thyssengas will have Dr. Thomas Becker as the financial officer and Dr. Gößmann on it for a little while. This is just until things settle down. After that Dr. Thomas Becker and Kesting will be, in charge of Thyssengas. They will be the leaders of Thyssengas starting in March 2026. Dr. Thomas Becker and Kesting will make up the team that runs Thyssengas.
Industry observers see Dr. Kesting’s appointment as a forward-looking move, positioning Thyssengas to lead in integrating innovative gas technologies while fulfilling its role as a reliable infrastructure partner. Her deep expertise in renewable gases and strategic vision is expected to strengthen the company’s influence in shaping Germany’s energy future.
