Integral Secures €6.3 Million to Revolutionize Financial Services for SMEs in Europe

Introduction: A New Approach to Accounting, Taxation, and Payroll for SMEs

Integral, a Berlin-based FinTech startup, has successfully raised €6.3 million in funding to overhaul how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) handle accounting, taxation, and payroll services. The startup, co-founded by Lukas Zörner and Anil Can Baykal, aims to streamline these essential business functions for German SMEs, starting with the professional services sector. This funding will enable Integral to take its first product to market and accelerate its mission to redefine the financial services landscape for SMEs across Europe.

A Vision to Empower SMEs

Integral’s founders believe that SMEs should focus on what truly matters: growing their business. The traditional accounting software solutions available today demand substantial time and effort from businesses, which could otherwise be spent on scaling and innovation. Integral’s vision is to be the trusted partner for SMEs, offering a fully outsourced solution that uses AI technology to simplify accounting, taxation, and payroll processes, making them faster, smarter, and more efficient.

Lukas Zörner, the Founder of Integral, explains, “We want to be the trusted partner for SMEs as they leverage the power of AI to reinvent these operations, allowing them to save time and money while focusing on growing their business.”

The Current Challenge for SMEs in Germany

Germany’s accounting and taxation market, worth a staggering €45 billion, is facing significant challenges, especially for SMEs. According to Integral, German SMEs experience some of Europe’s highest tax compliance costs, which can reach approximately 1.9% of their turnover. The situation is further complicated by the critical shortage of skilled professionals—71% of advisory firms report having staffing issues—which leads to manual errors, missed deadlines, and costly delays.

On top of that, the industry relies on outdated technology and manual workflows, leaving SMEs with poor service quality, high costs, and no access to real-time insights. Integral believes this lack of digital transformation has stunted the growth and competitiveness of SMEs.

A Centralized Solution for SMEs

Integral’s platform promises to tackle these issues by offering a centralized collaboration and communication platform, linking SMEs with trusted tax advisors. The platform also offers direct integration with customers’ financial tools and uses AI technology to support both SMEs and their advisors. This combination of automation and human expertise ensures that businesses can focus on growth while leaving complex administrative tasks to the experts.

The Funding Round and Key Investors

The funding round was led by General Catalyst and Cherry Ventures, two highly respected venture capital firms, with participation from Puzzle Ventures and various European entrepreneurs. The investment will support Integral in developing a robust product, collaborating closely with customers to refine the solution, and building a dedicated, experienced team in Berlin.

Zeynep Yavuz, Partner at General Catalyst, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “SMEs are the backbone of Europe’s economy, yet they remain underserved when it comes to digital tools for accounting and taxation. We believe Lukas and Anil are exceptional founders with a compelling vision, and we’re excited to partner with them on their mission to help the European economy thrive.”

Filip Dames, Founding Partner at Cherry Ventures, also weighed in, saying, “At Cherry, we back founders with the ambition to fundamentally reshape industries. The Integral team’s bold vision to revolutionize tax and accountancy services for SMEs across Europe tackles a deeply entrenched pain point. Lukas, Anil, and their team are building something transformative, and we’re thrilled to be their partners on this journey.”

The Road Ahead: Expanding Across Europe

With the new funding, Integral is set to scale its product and continue its mission to transform how SMEs in Europe manage their financial services. The company will use the funds to enhance its platform, refine its features, and expand its team in Berlin. Integral’s focus on building a close relationship with customers is key to ensuring that its product truly addresses the pain points SMEs face in the financial services sector.

By focusing on automation, AI, and integration, Integral aims to become the go-to platform for SMEs looking to streamline their accounting, taxation, and payroll functions.

The Future of Financial Services for SMEs

Integral’s platform could mark a turning point in the way SMEs interact with financial services. With the industry undergoing rapid digital transformation, startups like Integral are leading the charge in modernizing accounting, taxation, and payroll services for businesses of all sizes.

As the demand for cloud-based and AI-powered financial tools grows, Integral’s solution has the potential to become an integral part of the European SME ecosystem.

Looking ahead, the company plans to expand its reach beyond Germany, bringing its revolutionary platform to SMEs across Europe. As they continue to refine and scale their product, Integral is poised to be a game-changer in the FinTech space, driving innovation and supporting the growth of SMEs across the continent.
