Christoph Ruffner—CEO & Country Director, Thales Germany
Christoph Ruffner, the CEO and Country Director of Thales Germany is doing a job of helping Germany become a leader in advanced defence technology and cybersecurity and aerospace systems and trusted artificial intelligence.
He has been in charge since January 2024. Christoph Ruffner has been working on making Thales Germany more innovative and able to deal with problems and also making sure the technology they develop is controlled by Germany.
This is all part of Germanys plan to make itself safer and more secure and also to work with European countries on security issues. Christoph Ruffner and Thales Germany are really focused, on making this happen.
Ruffner is the CEO and Country Director. He is in charge of Thales operations in Germany. These operations have than 2,000 professionals working at different locations. The people at these locations work on systems like radar technologies and secure communications. They also work on electronic warfare solutions and air defence systems. Additionally they work on cybersecurity platforms. These systems are used by defence forces and the people who run infrastructure. Ruffner oversees all of this at Thales in Germany. Thales operations, in Germany are very important.
One big thing that happened when Ruffner was in charge was the start of cortAIx in January 2026. This is Thales global AI accelerator. It is in Germany. The idea of cortAIx is to make intelligence that people can trust and understand and that will keep working even in tough situations. This is especially important for things that’re really critical to a mission or where safety is a big concern. The cortAIx hub in Germany is now part of a group of Thales AI centres around the world including ones, in France, the United Kingdom, Canada and Singapore.
Ruffner always says that Artificial Intelligence used in defence and important systems must be really good and work properly. It has to be clear and safe from cyber attacks. The cortAIx programme helps companies, universities and government institutions work together better to make things faster. They still have to follow strict rules about what is right and wrong and keep everything safe. Ruffner is helping Thales Germany become a part of making sure Europe is good at using Artificial Intelligence for defence and is ready, for anything.
Before Ruffner joined Thales he was in charge of teams at Hensoldt. At Hensoldt Ruffner led the team that worked on Spectrum Dominance and Airborne Solutions. He also worked at Airbus before that. At Airbus Ruffner did a lot of things like making plans changing the way things were done and working with countries to develop the business. This experience has taught Ruffner a lot about making things in factories and, about the defence industry that uses technology. Ruffner has an understanding of both of these areas because of his background.
Thales Germany is doing more than working with artificial intelligence. Ruffners plan is to make Germany better at protecting itself from cyber attacks using machines that can work on their own and having a digital infrastructure.
He thinks it is very important to work with government agencies and companies that make things for a time. At the time Ruffner wants to make sure Thales Germany can compete with other companies, in the world and make money.
As geopolitical uncertainty and digital threats continue to grow, Christoph Ruffner’s leadership places Thales Germany at the intersection of innovation, security, and national resilience — reinforcing the company’s role as a trusted technology partner for Germany and its allies.
